How to clean your bong

Okay, so you’ve been using your bong heavily for a while and it has started to look a bit grimy, it doesn’t smoke as well as it used to and it is getting a little clogged. Heck, it’s even started to alter the taste.

Don’t worry, there is a simple fix – simply clean your bong from all of this grime and it will be good as new.

What you will need:

  • Epsom Salts or Baking Soda
  • Bong Cleaner or Rubbing Alcohol.
  • Q Tips or Pipe Cleaners.

The process really isn’t that hard, we have outlined the best way to clean your bong below:

  1. Take your bong apart, if you can. Having all of the individual parts separated makes cleaning your bong a lot easier as you can focus on one part at a time and really get into places where grime can hide.
  2. Rinse the individual parts. Give your bong a rinse with hot water. This will help to loosen up some of the grime and rinse away any grime that is already loose. Keep the other parts soaking in hot water. Let the main part of the bong dry, then move onto the next step.
  3. Pour in Epsom salts or Baking Soda into the main chamber. Pour in as much as you feel is appropriate, and average bong will need about 1/3 a cup.
  4. Add cleaning solution or Rubbing Alcohol. Depending on the size of your bong, you will need to add an appropriate amount of solution. Around ½ a cup should be enough.
  5. Shake! This is the most important part. You need to cover all of the holes and shake up the solution and the salt for around 5 minutes (the longer the better, really.)
  6. Empty the Solution. Pour the solution down the sink and give your bong a really good rinse through with more hot water.
  7. Repeat the cleaning process as necessary. Once is usually enough, however you may have to repeat the cleaning process once more to really get rid of the grime.

So that is the main bong done, what about the other pieces?

Ideally these should still be soaking in the hot water. Hopefully these should have had a nice long soak and this should have loosened some of the grime nicely.

Another alternative for the other pieces is to let them soak in cleaning solution or alcohol in a jar overnight, this will usually do the trick. Rinse them off then do the salt-alcohol shake and they should be good as new.

On the downstem, use the Q Tips or pipe cleaners to really get into the smaller parts that grime can get into. If you are having trouble with parts of the main bong, you can use these pipe cleaners with some paper towel attached to get those harder to reach areas.

If you want your piece to sparkle, you can squeeze a half a lemon into your bong, then add hot water. Swill this around and then dispose. Rinse with cold water and your bong will shine and smell fresh.

The real trick with keeping your bong clean is by keeping on top of it. Regularly cleaning your bong is much easier than cleaning it after years of abuse and build-up.
